Summer Arrival Info: Pre-Orientation Check-in

You are required to report to the Office of International Students & Scholars (ISS) in Room 136 of Schleman Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m after your arrival to the University. You will not be able to obtain a student photo ID card until you complete the Check-In process.  Please bring the following documents:

  • your passport
  • Form I-20 or Form DS-2019
  • I-94 departure card
  • local address and phone number
  • address and phone number of an emergency contact in the US
  • address and phone number of an emergency contact in your home country
  • all previous immigration documents if you are transferring from another U.S. institution
  • If you have dependents with you in the U.S., bring all of their immigration documents as well.

If you are in any other nonimmigrant status (such as J-2, F-2, H-1, etc.) you must also report to ISS. Bring your passport, I-94 card and all other documentation showing proof of your status.

Only students with proof of employment (teaching or research assistant offer letter, for example), and who can show proof of full-time enrollment (in the Registrar's computer system or written documentation from the Registrar) may begin the process to apply for a social security number at Check-In.

Note: If you are transferring from another educational institution in the U.S. to Purdue, you must notify your current institution before you depart that you will be attending Purdue for the summer. This will allow the other institution to transfer your record out of the government's SEVIS database, and for our office to access your record and issue you a new transfer Form I-20 or Form DS-2019. You must bring all your immigration documents (including I-20's or DS-2019's from previous schools) to our office to check in with us within the first two weeks of the start of classes. Failure to complete this process in a timely manner will lead to a loss of legal status or departure from the U.S.
