International parents and family members of students attending BGRi are welcome!
All events, except lodging, are free except for those meals marked "on your own."

Tuesday, August 12

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Lunch (On Your Own) with Your Student, Hillenbrand Dining Court 

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – International Parents’ Home Base, Stewart Center, Room 214
After arriving on campus, parents will  want to go to Stewart Center, Room 214 to get their parents’ registration packet and sign up for tours. Learn more about the week’s activities led by parent orientation staff.

4:00-5:00 PM & 5:30-6:30 PM - Community Bus Tours, Welcome to Greater Lafayette (sign up required)
Lafayette-West Lafayette is a wonderful community in which to live, work and play. Learn more about the history and amenities of this community by participating in the Greater Lafayette bus tour. Bus will leave from Purdue Memorial Union east entrance, across the street next to Grant Street Parking Garage.

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM - Picnic at Columbian Park, Lafayette
End the community bus tour at Columbian Park. Stroll the grounds, see the zoo and sports park and enjoy a picnic supper at Picnic Shelters 1-3. Meet Purdue staff, community members and Mayors Tony Rozwarski and John Dennis.

Wednesday, August 13

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM – International Parents’ Home Base, Stewart Center, Room 214
Parents will  want to go to Stewart Center, Room 214 to get their registration packet and sign up for tours. Learn more about the week’s activities from parents’ orientation staff and volunteers.  

9:00 AM – Hour-long walking tour of campus (sign up required)
Discover Purdue through a morning walking tour of the central campus. The hour-long tour will depart from the PMU Welcome Center and will be led by Welcome Center student ambassadors. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

10:00 – 11:15 AM – “Your Student’s Success at Purdue,” Stewart Center, Room 214
Your student’s success is our highest priority. What are programs like BGRi, BGR and MIX designed to do? Recent studies show that international students who participate in BGRi have a higher academic standing. International Programs Associate Deans Joe Potts and David Ayers will answer your questions about what your students will be learning and experiencing this week and beyond.  

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Lunch (On Your Own) with Your Student, Earhart Dining Court

1:30 PM – 2:45 PM – “Just for International Parents," Stewart Center, Room 214
Purdue Parents and Families Director, Kelley Stier, will lead this session on how parents can help their students be successful. Center for Career Opportunities International Student Consultant, Darshini Render, will highlight CCO resources at Purdue students can utilize in order to land their first job after graduation. Early planning is essential!

3:00-3:50 PM and 4:00-4:50 PM – Bus Tours of Purdue Campus (sign up required)
This tour will give you a broad view of Purdue’s 700 acre West Lafayette campus and includes a drive-by of the outer areas of campus. Bus departs from the Purdue Memorial Union Hotel east entrance (across street next to Grant Street Parking Garage) with stops at Co-Rec, Discovery Park and Armstrong Hall of Engineering. 

8:00 PM – Official Welcome Event for BGRi Students, Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center
Parents are welcome to attend this special event, also attended by West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis and key Purdue staff. Reserved seating for parents is in balcony section.

Thursday, August 14

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM – International Parents’ Home Room, Stewart Center, Room 214
Orientation staff and volunteers welcome you to stop in anytime. No question is unimportant.  

9:00 AM – Hour-long walking tour of campus (sign up required)

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM – “Just for International Parents," Stewart Center, Room 214
Captain Eric Chin from the Purdue University Campus Police will share important information about campus safety. Purdue International Coordinator, Trevor Foley, from Krach Center for Leadership, and International Student Academic Advisor, Karen Morgan, will follow, discussing co-curricular program options and essentials of academic advising.

11:38 AM – 3:30 PM –Downtown Tour of Main Street and Lunch (On Your Own) 
The trolley picks up passengers on State Street directly in front of Purdue Memorial Union (same side of street) and stops every 20 minutes. Stroll down Main Street and lunch at a local restaurant. Enjoy the shops and exploring on your own. Look for volunteer staff to assist you for any questions you might have.

4:00 PM – 5:45 PM – Welcome Reception for International Parents, Dauch Alumni Center
International parents are invited to a reception to meet Purdue staff who are eager to meet you! Walk to the Dauch Alumni Center, a block south of Stewart Center, on the corner of Grant and Wood Streets. Dress is casual.

5:45 PM – 7:30 PM – Basketball & Football Arena Tours (sign up required)
Board bus at Dauch Alumni Center parking lot at 5:45 pm and arrive at Mackey Arena for the Sports Arena tours starting at 6pm. Join athletic department guided tours of Mackey Arena and Ross Ade Stadium. Return bus will pick up group at Ross Ade Stadium and return to Purdue Memorial Union Hotel east entrance, next to Grant Street Garage.

Friday, August 15

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM – International Parents’ Home Room, Stewart Center, Room 214
Last day of parents’ orientation. Meet with orientation staff with any unanswered question.

8:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Free Time!
BGRi students move out of Earhart and into their permanent housing. NOTE: Parents who wish to assist are to meet their student at their permanent residence hall location, not Earhart.

10:00 AM – 1:30 PM –Open House Brunch (free!) at the International Center, 523 N. Russell Street (WL)

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM – Tour of Córdova Recreational Sports Center (sign up required)
Co-Rec Staff will give guided tours of this award winning center where students can maintain health and fitness.

3:00 PM – 3:50 PM  – Tips for Parents,” Stewart Center, Room 214
Purdue Parents and Families Director, Kelley Stier, will provide tips for parents to consider as their student lives and studies abroad as an international student. Student success depends on parents and students maintaining healthy connections that will promote students’ development. Don’t miss this important final session!
