International Friendship Program
Student Information

Opportunities

  1. Learn about American culture.
  2. Meet and make friends with an American.
  3. Share your country and culture, and most importantly, yourself.

Key Points

  1. Students do not live with friendship volunteers in this program.
  2. A volunteer and student in this program get together an average of once per month.
  3. The volunteer and student decide what they would like to do. Many people like to share meals, go on outings and celebrate holidays together. Hobbies of mutual interest are also good ideas.
  4. Students may request a volunteer at the beginning of each Spring and Fall semester.
  5. Priority is given to new students, but current students may also receive a volunteer if extras are available.

Orientation Programs

The Office of International Students & Scholars (ISS) organizes two separate mandatory orientation programs; one for students and another for friendship volunteers. The goal of the orientation is to help prepare both students and volunteers to meet one another. Cultural tips and important suggestions are discussed.
