International Education Week

Purdue International Week

November 16-21, 2009  "International Education Week" (IEW), held the third week in November each year, is an internationally recognized initiative, jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

During IEW, schools, universities, international and community organizations and area businesses are encouraged "to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the U.S." (U.S. Department of State)

This year, ISS is coordinating student visits and programs at three local schools and third grade classrooms - Burnett Creek Elementary, Hershey Elementary and James Cole Elementary. Purdue international student volunteers  will share with these children some of the special cultural aspects found in their home countries and cultures. In addition, international students will visit Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort, Indiana. There they will have an opportunity to get acquainted with local residents, tour the facilities and present a cultural program for Wesley Manor residents.
