Student Walk-In Hours:

Walk-In advising is intended for matters that can be addressed in 10 minutes or less. Students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-ins. Student Counselors are only available during walk in hours, except by appointment.

Special Note on Walk-In Travel Signatures: Travel signature requests must now be submitted online in advance through myISS. Walk-in signatures are only given for students who have been pre-approved through the online request.

The scholar services team has moved to Hovde Room 300, but many of its services are still provided in Schleman Room 136. Please follow the directions below while we are transitioning fully to Hovde.

Phone Calls: call 4-5770 during Scholar Phone duty times

To contact the scholar services team about a Purdue J-1 or H-1B question, please call the main ISS phone line (4-5770) during these times:

  • Mondays 1:30 PM to 3 PM

  • Tuesdays 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

  • Wednesdays 1:30 PM to 3 PM

  • Thursdays 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

  • Fridays 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Please clearly explain to the front desk that you have a scholar question to be forwarded to the scholar counselor on phone duty.


Scholar walkin sessions in Hovde Room 300 

To discuss an issue or ask a question about Purdue J-1 or H-1B status, we offer walkin sessions specifically for scholars in Hovde Room 300. These sessions are first-come, first-served for about 15 minutes each.


Scholar walkin sessions are available on Fridays 1:30 PM to 4 PM


Please note the instructions below regarding travel requests, which now require an eform before we can provide the documents/signatures required.

Scholar service appointments will be in Hovde Room 300. To access our appointment request site, please use this link:

This link is only intended for international faculty and staff, and for J-1 Exchange visitors holding "Scholar" Appointments. It is not intended for F-1 or J-1 Students. If you are an F-1 or J-1 Student needing general advising you must attend Student Walk-In Hours as explained above, or call the main office number listed above.

Visiting Scholar and Staff Request (J-1 visa only)

Please submit the paper Visiting Scholar and Staff Request form to the front desk at Schleman Room 136.

Travel Requests

Travel Requests now require that an eform be submitted in ISSConnect depending on your visa status. Below are instructions depending on your status.

J-1 Travel Requests

Those in J-1 scholar status who need a signature on their DS2019 to permit their reentry to the US will need to submit a Travel Request eform:


  1. Go to

  2. Click the blue Login button to log in using her Purdue Career Account

  3. Click on J-1 Scholar Services

  4. Click on Travel Request

  5. Complete and submit

  6. Within five (5) business days, ISS will process the eform, either asking for more information or sending email instructions regarding where to go to obtain the signature.

H-1B Travel Requests 

Those in H-1B status will need to submit their travel plans in an eform according to these instructions:


  1. Go to

  2. Click the blue Login button to log in using her Purdue Career Account

  3. Click on University Employment

  4. Click on Update ISS

  5. Click on Start a New Request

  6. Click on Travel Plans

  7. Complete and submit

  8. Within three (3) business days, ISS will process the eform, either asking for more information or sending email instructions regarding the travel plans.



Emergency Contact Number:

International students, faculty and staff who are currently at Purdue and who have an emergency situation, such as a lost or stolen passport, may call for assistance when the ISS office is not open for business.

Applicants for admission may not use this number to inquire about admission status or the status of the issuance of a Form I-20 or Form DS 2019.

Please do not use the emergency phone number to inquire about travel signatures or lost or forgotten I-20's.  Email your inquiry to and we will respond as soon as we return to the office.
